El Blok Expansion Plans
El Blok is currently adding a new bar and restaurant on the ground floor that will open onto the Malecon with stunning views of the ocean. It will be finished at the end of March 2018.
El Blok is also adding 11 new fabulous hotel rooms on the first floor, increasing the total number of guest rooms in the hotel to 31. These rooms are scheduled to open in June 2018.
There will be some loud noise during the day between 8am and 2pm – apologies in advance – guests should be out at the beach or exploring Vieques.
Photos will follow – watch this space!!!

Power & Light
El Blok has power and light, as does the whole of Esperanza.
Almost all the businesses in Esperenza are now up and running. Many parts of the island have power via the municipal generator and barrios are being added to the grid daily
El Blok also has its own back-up generator.
Water is flowing uninterrupted island wide and is potable. El Blok offers filtrated systems through out the property for added peace of mind.
WIFI and Internet
WIFI is available 24 hours a day at El Blok. Many local businesses are also offering connectivity to their guests.
Cell Phone and Data Services
Service is still spotty. Carriers such as AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile have the most coverage on the island right now.
“Land Line” Telephone Services
Connectivity is scattered, and El Blok has a land line service on +1 787 741 6020.
Vieques roadways are all functional and most signage is intact.
Health and Wellness
- The Centers for Diagnosis and Treatment, sometimes known as Vieques “hospital”, is operating out of Army tents at this time and is slated to be moved to a temporary facility while the current buildings undergo renovation and repair. The emergency room is open and doctors and nurses are present. We do not recommend that individuals with critical health needs rely on these facilities at this time.
- Private Medical and Dental Offices are open and operating normal business hours though most appointments must be made in person.
- Municipal Police, Fire and EMTs are all actively working to protect and serve the island.
